Paavli Kultuurivabrik has taken over the mantle that Sveta occupied as a multi-purpose venue for mid-sized acts.

The show itself started with an energetic punk act IGNORANCE (FIN) who played an energetic set, as any newer band has to to get their name out there & build a following.

Following up on the thrashy noise was an older local act CHILDBEATER (EE), who’ve been providing “East Block Powerviolence, since 1995” not as fast and heavy as the first act but still a decent set.

Of course the band everyone came for took the stage to a packed house with an ever bigger mosh pit to take in what living legends we have left touring this part of Europe, D.R.I., who were truly the first ever ‘crossover’ type of band from the 80’s when music scenes were very divided along genre lines. A lot of people don’t realize that it wasn’t until the 90’s that bands like Motörhead garnered a steady following of both Punk & Metalheads who normally got along about as well as cats and dogs do.

Watching them live was a surreal experience for both myself & an old friend, who like me listened to D.R.I. as young teenagers but kinda like ‘another band in the background’, lots of people liked but hardly anyone’s favorite.

Their set was very impressive, in spite of their age they still very much had it together, it looked very much like some of the live show videos floating out there from the 90’s in terms of tight execution and overall intense energy.

Hooked was still as good as ever, they were only given an hour for their set so no encore songs sad to say, but a memorable evening was had by all who clamoured for more – but when the guitar picks are given away that’s a sure sign that it was time to remember as much as you can and head off to the rest of your Saturday.

The merchandise table was well stocked with band stickers, vinyls, patches, etc. but if you missed your chance at Paavli, you can still find the goods online.
