Nya Yeanafehn takes the stage alone, but rather than launching straight into a prepared set, he starts by talking to the audience. And that is where the show really begins.
He takes his time, asks questions, listens to the answers and reacts with a quick wit that makes the exchanges feel genuinely spontaneous. Instead of watching someone simply deliver a set of jokes they have rehearsed a hundred times, you get the feeling that the show is being shaped by the people in the room. Gradually, the conversation turns into stand-up, with observations and stories about cultural differences, identity and finding your place in Europe.

Nya has a natural way of interacting with people, and his quick comebacks make even the simplest exchanges entertaining. There is a real pleasure in watching a comedian who can take an unexpected answer and turn it into something funny without making the interaction feel forced.
After the first part, we get a change of pace with Estonian comedian Ardo Asperk.

As someone living in Estonia, I particularly enjoyed his set. The accent, the local references and the little details of everyday life here hit differently when you recognise them yourself. But the humour isn’t limited to people who live in Estonia. Even without knowing every local reference, there is plenty to laugh at, and his performance left me curious to see a full show of his own.
Then Nya returns for the second part, bringing the evening to around an hour and a half in total. It’s a great length for a comedy night, with enough variety to keep things moving without making the experience feel rushed.

What makes American-ish Immigrant enjoyable is that it feels less like a comedian delivering a finished product and more like spending an evening with someone who is genuinely curious about people and the differences between the worlds we come from. The audience interaction gives the show its own personality, while Nya’s stories provide plenty of material for anyone who has ever found themselves navigating life between cultures.
And with more dates coming up around Europe, there should be plenty of opportunities to catch him on the road.
If you enjoy stand-up that leaves room for spontaneity and unexpected moments, American-ish Immigrant is well worth checking out.
