Richard moves from one joke to the next, covering everything from everyday observations to more unexpected topics. Some land immediately, others earn a groan.
His Scottish accent adds its own flavour to the performance, so being open to it definitely helps. Richard also gets the audience involved along the way, while some jokes appear on a screen, giving the show a little extra variety.
What stands out is the precision of the one-liners. Getting a joke down to just a few words and making the punchline work takes real skill, and Richard has clearly spent years mastering it.
It’s a simple format, but it creates a nice rhythm in the room. One joke lands, there’s a laugh or a groan, and then we’re onto the next.
Gold Fashioned Jokes is a straightforward evening of puns, wordplay and classic one-liner comedy, with a distinctly Scottish flavour. The Tallinn Fringe Festival continues through 18 September.
